Winners of the 72nd annual National Book Awards for 2021 were announced November 17. Four of the five authors of award-winning books were people of color. Winners in the five categories are as follows:

fiction: HELL OF A BOOK by Jason Mott (top right photo)

nonfiction: ALL THAT SHE CARRIED by Tiya Miles (top left)

poetry: FLOATERS by Martín Espada (bottom left)

young people’s literature: LAST NIGHT AT THE TELEGRAPH CLUB by Malinda Lo (middle)

translated literature: WINTER IN SOKCHO by Elisa Shua Dusapin (bottom right)
